Nine dead, multiple injured in fire at Massachusetts assisted living facility

Nine assisted living facility residents have died after a five-alarm fire at Fall River, Mass.-based Gabriel House, according to a July 14 report from The Boston Globe

Officials believe around 30 people were injured in the fire, which took place after 9:30 pm on July 13, the report said.

“Several occupants were declared deceased at the scene,” the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said in a July 14 statement. “Many more were transported to local and regional hospitals in varying conditions.”

About 70 residents lived at the 100-unit facility prior to the fire, according to the Globe

Five firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the fire, the statement said. 

A family notification center has been set up at nearby St. Anne’s Hospital, also in Fall River.
