New Orleans nursing home owner banned from federal funding

Bob Dean, 68, an owner of seven nursing homes across New Orleans, has been barred from participating in federal healthcare programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, as his legal battles for a botched Hurricane Ida evacuation continue, nola.com reported May 23.

Mr. Dean’s lawyers claimed “dementia and severe cognitive impairment” in February made him “unfit to testify” in his legal proceedings.

He has appealed to get back his nursing home licenses, according to nola.com. If the appeal is successful, he will be reinstated by HHS.
