New York City-based Mount Sinai will establish the Steven S. Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving, a support center dedicated to the psychological needs of caregivers.
The center will be led by Allison Applebaum, PhD, a professor of geriatrics and palliative medicine at New York City-based Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, according to a May 20 news release from the health system.
Dr. Applebaum joined Mount Sinai from New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she founded and led the center’s Caregivers Clinic.
The Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving aims to inform national standards and guidelines on how the U.S. healthcare system can better support caregivers of patients with illness and disabilities.
The center is being established through a gift from Trudy Elbaum Gottesman and Robert Gottesman in memory of Trudy’s brother, the release said.
