Minnesota lawmaker pushes for cameras in nursing home rooms

Minnesota Sen. Karin Housley, R-39th district, is pushing a bill that would allow cameras in patient rooms at nursing homes and other care facilities, reports Fox 9.

The bill would make it legal for patients or families to install cameras in patient rooms at their own expense. Patients and roommates must give written consent to placing the camera in the room.

"Right now, it's not clear in the law whether you can have a camera in your room," Ms. Housley told Fox 9. "Some family members are putting a camera in and the facilities are taking it down. So, this actually puts some parameters … that allows the residents to put the camera in their room and it will be legal."

Three state Senate committees have unanimously passed the bill, which will now head to the Senate floor for a vote.
