The 10 US cities with the fastest, slowest growing economies in 2016

Cities around the U.S. have rebounded financially since the nation began recovering from the economic recession of 2008, with many seeing economic and population growth.

To gauge the rate of growth, personal finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2016's Fastest Growing Cities.

To identify the U.S. cities that grew the fastest between 2009 and 2015, WalletHub's analysts compared 515 U.S. cities across 14 key metrics, ranging from "population growth rate" to "college-educated population growth" to "unemployment rate decrease." WalletHub also produced separate rankings for large, midsize and small cities.

The 10 fastest growing cities include:

1. Frisco, Texas
2. League City, Texas
3. Leigh Acres, Fla.
4. Kent, Wash.
5. Surprise, Ariz.
6. Meridian, Idaho
7. Midland, Texas
8. McKinney, Texas
9. Concord, N.C.
10. Bryan, Texas

The 10 slowest growing cities include:

506. Waukegan, Ill.
507. Flint, Mich.
508. Cleveland
509. Cincinnati
510. Gary, Ind.
511. Atlanta
512. Toledo, Ohio
513. TomsRiver, N.J.
514. Detroit
515. Jacksonville, N.C.

Here are five more findings from the study.

1. Leigh Acres, Fla., experienced the highest population growth from 2009 to 2015, at 8.44 percent. Detroit experienced the highest population decline at 4.47 percent.

2. College Station, Texas, experienced the highest household income increase, at 9.07 percent. Kenner, La., experienced the highest household income decrease, at 2.76 percent.

3. Frisco, Texas, saw the highest job growth, at 5.32 percent. Decatur, Ill., experienced the highest jobs decrease, at 1.31 percent.

4. McKinney, Texas, experienced the highest poverty rate decrease, at 9.63 percent. Conversely, Ellicott City, Md., experienced the highest poverty rate increase, at 87.61 percent.

5. Midland, Texas, experienced the highest growth in GDP per capita, at 11.81 percent, while Yuma, Ariz., experienced the highest decrease in GDP per capita, at 2.79 percent.
