Point Pleasant, W.Va.-based Fruth Pharmacy will sell all its pharmacies to Walgreens in December.

The chain, founded in 1952, operates 16 locations across West Virginia and Southern Ohio, according to a report from ABC affiliate WCHS. The family-owned business at one point owned 29 stores across three states.

Fruth Pharmacy President Lynne Fruth said Walgreens plans to interview and offer jobs to many Fruth employees. She partly attributed the sale to reimbursement practices by pharmacy benefit managers, which she said have forced thousands of pharmacies nationwide to close, the report said.
