Dr. McGee has worked at St. Francis since March 2016 and reportedly oversees 60 to 70 employees daily. She said in the lawsuit that after learning all of her white male pharmacist peers made more money than she does, she expressed concern to human resources.
In December 2018, she went on medical leave. While she was gone, the lawsuit said there was a “disparity in narcotics” at the pharmacy. The hospital allegedly asked Dr. McGee to account for the missing narcotics, but she told them she could not, since she hadn’t been to work in months, according to Fox 13 Memphis.
After the incident, Dr. McGee said she was passed over for the position of pharmacy manager and it was given to someone less qualified. She also was discouraged from applying for a different position within the hospital, she said.
Dr. McGee is suing on four counts: race discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress and outrageous conduct, retaliation under title 7 of the Civil Rights Act of1964 and a request for permanent injunction.
