Pharmacist demand grows in early 2025

Pharmacist job demand rose notably in the first quarter of 2025, with a total of 20,053 pharmacist job postings recorded between January and March, up from 18,896 during the same period in 2024, according to the latest “Pharmacy Demand Reportfrom Pharmacy Workforce Center

Retail pharmacists were in high demand, accounting for 9,661 job postings, followed by 4,414 for clinical pharmacists, 3,476 for hospital pharmacists, 1,485 for other pharmacist roles and 1,017 for pharmacy directors. 

California topped the list of states with the most openings, followed by Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania and New York. The fewest openings were reported in Puerto Rico and Hawaii and among metro areas, New York, Boston and Chicago had the highest job volumes. 

While pharmacy technician demand dipped slightly to 39,111 postings in the first quarter of 2025, down from 39,716 in first quarter 2024, technician roles remained heavily concentrated in major metros like New York, Chicago and Dallas.
