New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue’s Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency Program has received an eight-year accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the organization’s full accreditation term.
The accreditation extends through 2034, according to an Oct. 23 news release. An ASHP survey was conducted in May 2026, and the ASHP Board of Directors accepted the Commission on Credentialing’s decision in September 2026. The program is the first pharmacy residency program within New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals to earn the maximum eight-year accreditation term.
The accreditation comes as demand for residency-trained pharmacists outpaces supply. In the 2026 ASHP residency match, 3,872 people matched with 1,567 programs in phase 1, but 1,250 of 5,122 positions were still open heading into phase 2, and the national match rate across both phases was 84.4%. Health systems are also growing their own pharmacy workforce by expanding residencies, as Indianapolis-based Community Health Network did by about 50% over several years to support oncology, cardiology and specialty pharmacy services.
