Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare is building a new $29.8 million central fill pharmacy, The Courier-Journal reported Nov. 12.

The off-site pharmacy will process and fill up to 7,000 prescriptions per day upon its completion next summer. It will also offer free home delivery for Norton patients.

Rather than replacing current services, the facility will supplement efforts at five existing Norton Pharmacy locations housed within the system’s hospitals.

“The approach leverages automation and technology to create efficiencies and allows for scalability and expansion to better serve patients,” Renee Murphy, senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer at Norton Healthcare, told The Courier-Journal.

Norton is renovating an existing 41,000-square-foot building for the facility, which will also include office space.

The new site is expected to create 30 new roles initially, with the potential to add 17 more over the next five years, according to the report.
