Eastern Iowa Health Center recently opened a new pharmacy in Cedars Rapids to address a medication access gap after a Hy-Vee closed last summer, Corridor Business Journal reported Aug. 13.
The pharmacy was under development for two years, but the Hy-Vee’s closure expedited the plan, according to the report.
The closure left 1,800 patients at Eastern Iowa Health Center without a pharmacy. The center surveyed its patients in February 2024 about whether an on-site pharmacy would be beneficial, with 75% of respondents saying yes.
The federally qualified health center provides family medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, OB-GYN, behavioral health and dental services.
