Hospital pharmacist wages increase 3%

The median salary for hospital pharmacists in 2024 was $149,240, a 3.44% increase from $144,270, the 2023 average, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 2024, hospitals employed 28% of the nation’s pharmacists and paid them the second-highest average salary. Ambulatory healthcare services, accounting for 6% of the pharmacist workforce, paid pharmacists a median salary of $152,980 in 2024. 

Between 2022 and 2023, hospital pharmacists saw about a 4% salary increase

Nearly 40% of pharmacists worked at pharmacies and drug retailers in 2024, earning an average $131,640. General merchandise retailers employed 6% of the workforce and paid an average $145,210. 

Over the next decade, demand for pharmacists is expected to increase in hospital and clinical settings while “demand will be limited” in retail settings as more patients opt for mail-order pharmacies, according to BLS.
