FibroGen names former Eli Lilly president as CEO

FibroGen appointed Enrique Conterno, a former senior vice president for Eli Lilly, as its CEO Jan. 6.

Mr. Conterno joined Eli Lilly in 1992 and retired at the end of 2019. During his time with the company, he served as senior vice president of Eli Lilly, president of Lilly USA and Lilly Diabetes and as a member of Lilly’s corporate executive committee. 

Jim Schoeneck was named interim CEO for FibroGen — a San Francisco-based drugmaker that focuses on anemia, fibrosis and cancer — in  August after the death of founder and former CEO Tom Neff. 

Mr. Conterno will replace Mr. Schoeneck, effective immediately. Mr. Schoeneck has been appointed chairman of the board of directors and will continue to serve the company during a transition period.
