CMS sanctioned Cigna Jan. 21, 2016, after an audit found the payer failed to comply with CMS’ Medicare Part C and Part D requirements. As a result, members experienced delays or denials in medical services and prescription drugs. CMS’ audit also revealed the deficiencies increased out-of-pocket expenses for some policyholders.
CMS’ clearance means Cigna can resume selling its Medicare prescription drug plans immediately, with coverage beginning July 1.
