The Board of Pharmacy Specialties formally recognized pharmacy informatics as a specialty certification Dec. 8.

The certification agency said it will release more information on its 16th certified pharmacy specialty “at a later date.” The announcement comes two weeks after the board declined to approve pharmacy administration and leadership as a specialty certification.

The board now recognizes and certifies the following pharmacy specialties: ambulatory care, cardiology, compounded sterile preparations, critical care, emergency medicine, geriatric, infectious diseases, informatics, nuclear, nutrition support, oncology, pain management, pediatric, pharmacotherapy, psychiatric and solid organ transplantation.

The board announced five additions to its 2026 board of directors Dec. 4, which include nine pharmacists and three public members who serve two- to three-year terms.

The five appointments are:

  • Anita Siu, PharmD, as BPS Chair. Dr. Siu is the vice chair for teaching and learning in the department of pharmacy practice and administration at Rutgers University-New Brunswick in New Jersey.
  • Brian Erstad, PharmD, as BPS Chair Elect. Dr. Erstad is interim dean of and professor at the University of Arizona’s R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy in Tucson.
  • Melissa Badowski, PharmD, as a pharmacist member. Dr. Badowski is associate director of ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services at the University of Illinois Chicago’s Retzky College of Pharmacy.
