ASHP elects next president

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists has named Kim Benner, PharmD, as the organization’s next president. 

Dr. Benner is a professor at Samford University’s pharmacy school in Birmingham, Ala., and a pediatric clinical pharmacy specialist at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. She has served on ASHP’s board of directors and advisory groups, the organization said Aug. 7. 

Melanie Dodd, PharmD, associate dean of clinical affairs at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy in Albuquerque, previously served as ASHP president. 

The organization also elected its new treasurer and two upcoming board members: 

  • Lisa Gersema, PharmD, system director of clinical pharmacy services at Minneapolis-based Allina Health, is now the ASHP’s treasurer. 
  • Christy Norman, PharmD, senior vice president of pharmacy services at Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare, will join the board in June 2026. 
  • Christopher Scott, PharmD, chief clinical operating officer at Indianapolis-based Eskenazi Health, will also join the board in June 2026.
