Here are six hospitals, health systems or primary care networks that have announced investments in retail, specialty or in-house pharmacies this year, reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.

1. UPMC acquires community pharmacy in Pittsburgh
UPMC has acquired Duquesne University’s community pharmacy in Pittsburgh.

2. Essentia Health to acquire 2 Minnesota pharmacies
Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health took over ownership of two retail pharmacies in Minnesota in June.

3. Hawaii primary care network opens in-house pharmacy
The Bay Clinic, a primary care provider with eight locations in East Hawaii, has opened its first in-house pharmacy.

4. Rural Colorado hospital to launch in-house pharmacy
Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colo., will establish its first in-house pharmacy for patients and employees.

5. Dignity Health brings specialty pharmacy in-house
San Francisco-based Dignity Health opened its hospital-owned specialty pharmacy March 26.

6. Mayo Clinic’s $8M pharmacy will not service the public: 4 notes
Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic’s planned $8 million pharmacy will primarily focus on mail-order prescriptions and will not be for public use. It is expected to open this summer.
