3 drugmakers announce recalls

In the past week, three pharmaceutical companies have recalled medications because of patient safety concerns.

Amneal Pharmaceuticals recalled four lots of vancomycin hydrochloride for oral solution, an enterocolitis treatment, because some bottles might be overfilled, the FDA said March 27. The next day, the agency published a voluntary recall from Eugia US. The drugmaker recalled one lot of its methocarbamol injection after a customer reported "the presence of white particles floating inside of the vial," the FDA said.

The medicine is indicated for discomfort connected to acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.

On April 1, Pulaski, Tenn.-based AvKARE pulled one lot of atovaquone oral suspension after a third-party lab discovered a potential Bacillus cereus contamination.

Atovaquone is used to Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in patients 13 and older who cannot tolerate other medicines, according to the FDA.

Amid the three recalls, zero adverse events have been reported.
