Wisconsin lawmakers: There should be no job losses with Aetna-Humana merger

Wisconsin Rep. Eric Genrich (D) and Sen. Dave Hansen (D) are attempting to take new measures to ensure the merger between Humana and Aetna doesn't result in any job losses in their state, according to Louisville Business First.

In a letter to Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance Ted Nickel, Rep. Genrich and Sen. Hansen claimed job losses would be a "devastating blow," according to the report.

"For that reason, we ask that [the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance] receive a guarantee of zero job reductions within Humana's Wisconsin locations should the proposed merger proceed," the representatives wrote in the letter, according to the report.

Rep. Genrich and Sen. Hansen also asked Mr. Nickel to "work with Aetna and Humana to control drug prices and premiums for Wisconsin consumers and to maintain a competitive array of choices in providers," according to the report.

Federal regulators are still reviewing the Aetna-Humana merger, but the merger also needs approval from various states, including Wisconsin.
