The partnership — called HealthPartners UnityPoint Health — will utilize UnityPoint’s network of providers and HealthPartners’ scale and health plan sophistication.

Both organizations will have equal ownership and governance of the new company, which is currently seeking insurance licenses in Iowa and Illinois.

HealthPartners UnityPoint Health hopes to start operations in 2016. Pending regulatory approval, the company will also offer Medicare Advantage for the plan year beginning Jan. 1, 2017.
