UnitedHealth Group's philanthropic foundation, the United Health Foundation, released its inaugural "America's Health Rankings Health Disparities Report," which was compiled using three decades of data, according to a June 29 news release.
Five things to know:
- Disparities in mental and behavioral health have worsened, particularly among those without a high school education and women.
- Black mothers face a maternal mortality rate that is 3.4 times higher than Hispanic mothers.
- Rates of maternal mortality increased 55 percent for white mothers, 23 percent for Hispanic mothers and 22 percent for Black mothers between 2005-2009 and 2015-2019.
- Disparities in household food insecurity grew most notably among American Indians and Alaska Natives, the statement said.
- Populations without a high school education face the largest health disparities.
