A group of providers accused Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan of suddenly reducing reimbursement rates during what it describes as a growing opioid epidemic, according to the initial July 31, 2019, lawsuit.
The insurer has since refuted the claims, saying the battle is not with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, but with the companies it processed claims on behalf of and other Blue Cross Blue Shield entities, according to a May 26, 2020, request for dismissal.
A judge ruled against the insurer’s argument on Sept. 24, meaning Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will continue to face its legal battle against the collection of providers.
