Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio, has signed a definitive agreement to join Kettering (Ohio) Health.

The organizations signed a letter of intent in July and expect the transaction to close by Jan. 1, pending customary closing conditions and legal and regulatory reviews, according to an Oct. 30 health system news release.

Under the agreement, Kettering Health has committed to investing in Knox Community Hospital’s facilities, equipment and technology, including implementing an Epic EHR. The release did not disclose the investment amount.

Kettering Health also committed to maintaining the hospital’s current services and supporting workforce stability during the transition. A local advisory board comprising current Knox Community Hospital board members would provide input on community priorities. The hospital will also maintain its existing charity care and financial assistance policies.

Knox Community Hospital is a 99-bed nonprofit hospital. Kettering Health operates 14 medical centers and more than 100 outpatient locations across western Ohio.
