South Nassau Communities Hospital, Empire BCBS reach agreement

Oceanside, N.Y.-based South Nassau Communities Hospital resolved a dispute with Empire BlueCross BlueShield to keep the hospital in the insurer's network.

Empire BCBS members were first notified about the potential contract lapse in May. Patients, volunteers and healthcare professionals rallied June 21 in a "battle" with Empire BCBS over "equitable reimbursement" for South Nassau Communities Hospital.

The new contract kept the hospital from leaving Empire BCBS' network July 1.

A statement South Nassau Communities Hospital provided to Becker's Hospital Review reads, "We want to thank BlueCross leadership for negotiating in good faith and ultimately acting in the best interests of our patients and BlueCross members."
