MVP Health Care 1st insurer in New York, Vermont to offer at-home COVID-19 PCR, lab tests

MVP Health Care is partnering with BioReference Laboratories to offer at-home COVID-19 PRC testing, bloodwork and other diagnostics, the payer announced Dec. 20.

The move makes the payer the first in Vermont and New York to roll out such an initiative, according to a news release shared with Becker’s

The insurer is tapping BioReference Laboratories’ digital platform, Scarlet Health, which allows members to schedule an in-home visit after meeting with a physician in person or virtually. Members then receive their results digitally. 

“There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has altered how patients prefer to interact with the health care system,” said Chris Del Vecchio, MVP Health Care president and CEO. 

“By partnering with BioReference to offer Scarlet Health, MVP is opening the door to health care accessibility, meeting our members where they are,” he continued. “Through this partnership we are proud to enable a more personalized and convenient approach to diagnostic testing that empowers members to take control of their care without leaving the comfort of home.”
