Humana's total joint bundled payment model doubles to 13 states

Humana added seven states to its bundled payment model for Medicare Advantage members undergoing total hip or knee joint replacement surgery.

With the new agreements, Humana more than doubled the number of states where it offers the bundled payments. The insurer now runs the model across 13 states with 40 providers.

Humana launched the total joint bundled payment initiative in 2016 with Ohio- and Tennessee-based orthopedic groups. The insurer extended the model to Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia in 2017. The seven new states are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The payer also has an agreement in Indiana.
