Humana reported total revenue of about $10.3 billion for the three months ended Sept. 30, a 6.9 percent increase from approximately $9.6 billion in the third quarter of 2012. However, total operating costs also went up by 8.4 percent to nearly $9.7 billion.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2013, Humana reported net income of about $1.3 billion, a 22.4 percent increase from $1 billion in the first nine months of 2012. Revenues for the first nine months of this year totaled $31.1 billion, up 5.3 percent from nearly $29.6 billion last year.
