HCSC’s senior medical director takes CMO role at New York payer

MVP Health Care, a health plan in New York, hired former Health Care Service Corp. executive Bruce Himelstein, MD, as its CMO.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Himelstein, who has more than 25 years of leadership experience in clinical medicine, education, research and program design, will oversee MVP’s medical management strategy.

2. Prior to joining MVP, he served as the senior executive medical director for government solutions at HCSC, the parent company of Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in six states.

3. Dr. Himelstein previously was a pediatric oncologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
