In response to an open records request, Connecticut officials stated any unreleased documents regarding a proposed Anthem-Cigna merger will remain confidential, the International Business Times reported.
The rejection to the open records request is the latest in a saga of increasing criticism of Connecticut officials involved in the merger, beginning with Gov. Dannel Malloy's appointment of former Cigna lobbyist Katharine Wade as the state's insurance commissioner. Mrs. Wade is married to a Cigna executive and related to other individuals associated with the company.
Cigna is based in Bloomfield, Conn.
Simultaneously, Gov. Malloy received criticism for his connection to both insurers through their increased donations to the Democratic Governors Association, which Mr. Malloy chairs, according to an IBT investigation.
State officials' decision on the merger comes on the cusp of several grassroots groups requesting increased transparency from government officials and that the governor ousts Ms. Wade.
