The Connecticut Office of State Ethics opened a 30-day comment period in light of Insurance Commissioner Katharine Wade's possible conflict of interest with a proposed merger between Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna and Indianapolis-based Anthem, Hartford Business reported.
The 30-day comment period comes after the ethics office considered a petition to investigate Wade's possible conflict-of-interest. Last week, Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a bill to withhold all merger information from the public. This occurred the same day Gov. Malloy rejected an open records request made by grassroots groups, who previously urged the governor to oust Mrs. Wade on grounds of her previous affiliation with Cigna and familial ties with Cigna employees.
Stakeholders will have until July 20 at 5 p.m. to present legal arguments, relevant facts and opinions regarding the merger to ethics officials.
