Clover working with supermarkets, retailers on grocery benefit

Clover is offering Medicare Advantage grocery benefits through a range of grocery retailers as well as grocery delivery through Walmart to address social determinants of health, Yahoo Finance reports.

Members with underlying health conditions are eligible for $300 to $500 in benefits with quarterly distribution. Benefits gradually phase in, starting at $20 in August.

Additionally, Clover's grocery delivery initiative is through a collaboration with Walmart, which comes on the heels of a previous partnership with the company on Medicaid Advantage plans in 2020.

Clover will also be monitoring the benefit payment cards and may reach out to members if they suddenly stop using the benefits, according to Yahoo Finance.

Other insurers such as Humana and Centene have already offered grocery benefits since they were made available by CMS in 2018. Clover's benefit is awaiting CMS approval.
