CareFirst CEO to retire next year: 3 things to know

Chet Burrell, president and CEO of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in Baltimore, will retire in mid-2018.

Here are three things to know.

1. Mr. Burrell acted as the payer’s top executive since December 2007.

2. Prior to joining CareFirst, Mr. Burrell held chief executive and leadership roles at healthcare companies such as RealMed in Indianapolis, Albany, N.Y.-based Novalis and Blue Cross and Blue Shield organizations in New York state.

3. CareFirst’s board of directors will begin a nationwide search for Mr. Burrell’s replacement.
