BCBS of Texas launches employer-sponsored exchange

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has launched a private exchange plan for businesses with one to 50 employees.

The new exchange option, Blue Directions, is aimed at helping small employers manage their defined contribution strategies. The Blue Directions platform allows employees to choose a group plan offered by their employer or to choose an individual marketplace plan.

The employer-sponsored exchange also has a subsidy calculation tool, which allows employees to determine if they are eligible for financial assistance if they purchase a marketplace plan.

"Our new private healthcare exchange for small business takes the complexity out of designing and administering employee benefit programs by helping business owners make informed decisions, anticipate expenditures and simplify year-round benefits administration," said Bert Marshall, president of BCBS of Texas.
