The contract, awarded March 6, is worth $9.4 billion. It will run from 2022-24. State Treasurer Dale Folwell predicts the contract will save $110 million in administrative costs during the three-year period.
BCBS of North Carolina beat out Aetna and UnitedHealthcare subsidiary United Medical Resources for the contract.
Under a separate contract announced March 10, Humana will provide Medicare Advantage products to eligible State Health Plan members starting in 2021. The state said the contract will save $590 million in costs.
