Through its Mobilize AZ initiative, BCBS will award $560,000 in funding to the Arizona Department of Health Services’ State Loan Repayment Program. Arizona’s SLRP program helps recruit and retain healthcare providers in vulnerable communities, such as those in rural areas. The program repays a healthcare providers’ school loans in exchange for a two-year commitment to providing care in an area that has a physician shortage or is medically underserved.
BCBSAZ’s contribution will support five mental health providers. BCBSAZ is the first company to make a private donation to the SLRP that will increase the number of healthcare providers participating each year.
