Anthem to pick up another Florida Medicare Advantage plan

Anthem will acquire America's 1st Choice, a private Medicare Advantage firm serving members in Florida and South Carolina.

This is the second Medicare Advantage plan in Florida Anthem said it would acquire in the past month. The payer, which is expanding its footprint in the lucrative Medicare Advantage market, inked an agreement to acquire HealthSun last month.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal is slated to close in the first quarter of 2018, pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

America's 1st Choice's policies include Freedom Health and Optimum in Florida as well as America's 1st Choice of South Carolina, which serve a combined 130,000 policyholders. Anthem will gain about 40,000 members from its HealthSun acquisition.
