Aetna opens Mindfulness Center for employees

Insurance giant Aetna has opened its first Mindfulness Center at its headquarters in Hartford, Conn., according to HartfordBusiness.com.

The Mindfulness Center is designed to help employees control stress and improve workplace culture. Employees of Aetna's other offices can access the center virtually, according to the report.

"It's a part of the company's broader strategy," said Cheryl Jones, director of mindfulness at Aetna, according to HartfordBusiness.com. "We're evolving beyond the mindfulness-based wellness programs and aiming to create a workplace culture of well-being."

The center offers employees mindfulness activities, as well as lessons on how to incorporate mindfulness practices into their daily lives. It will eventually offer courses and host guest speakers, according to the report.

Aetna, which has been based in Hartford for more than 150 years, has disclosed it is in negotiations to relocate its headquarters this summer, the Hartford Courant reported.
