100k enrolled in ACA health plans day after election

HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said more than 100,000 enrolled in ACA exchange plans Wednesday following Tuesday's election results, the highest of any day since enrollment commenced Nov. 1.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing the uptick in enrollees is "an indication of the intense demand for the kinds of offerings that are available to people at HealthCare.gov."

While the ACA's potential repeal under an incoming Trump administration leaves the viability of the health plans unknown, Mr. Earnest said the Obama administration is still encouraging individuals to sign up.

"The president-elect is going to make his own decisions and worries about those future decisions shouldn't have any impact on anybody capitalizing on the opportunities that are available to them today on HealthCare.gov,” Mr. Earnest said.
