California health system at risk of losing funding restores compliance

Just weeks ago, Santa Clara Valley Healthcare in San Jose, Calif., was at risk of losing Medicare reimbursements due to patient safety concerns. Now, after an investigation by the California Department of Public Health, the health system is reportedly back in compliance

After the health system was notified of its risk for noncompliance, it was required to submit a plan of correction. The CDPH then conducted a revisit assessment to determine if the measures taken aligned with compliance.

After the visit, the CMS issued a notice to Santa Clara Valley Healthcare on March 3 "providing official notification of compliance and participation in the Medicare program," according to a March 8 news release from Santa Clara County.

"We appreciate the time and efforts of CDPH and CMS to review and approve our plan of correction and to affirm our compliance with the CMS Conditions of Participation," Paul Lorenz, CEO of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare, said in a statement.
