Mayo Clinic and Thermo Fisher Scientific have launched Precure, a joint venture designed to detect biological signs of disease before patients develop symptoms, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, will serve as majority owner of the entity and Thermo Fisher joins as a minority partner. Precure will build one of the world’s largest human multi-omics datasets — integrating proteomic and genomic data with longitudinal clinical information drawn from 1 million biospecimens collected over several years, according to the release.

Thermo Fisher will contribute its Olink Explore HT proteomics platform and Orbitrap mass spectrometry technology to the effort. Marc Casper, Thermo Fisher Scientific’s chairman and CEO, said the venture has “the potential to create a step change in how we generate and apply multi-omics data to improve human health.”
Target disease areas include cancer, cardiometabolic conditions, neurological disorders and immune-mediated disease — conditions where biological changes often precede clinical diagnosis by years. Advanced AI and large-scale data analytics will be used to identify patterns across the datasets and translate them into actionable insights.
Precure is distinct from Precure Research, Mayo Clinic’s current investigator-led science initiative. Any financial returns to Mayo Clinic from the venture will be reinvested in its nonprofit mission of patient care, research and education.
