Tri-City Medical Center to take new vote on suspending mental health unit

Oceanside, Calif.-based Tri-City Medical Center's board of directors will reconsider whether to suspend the hospital's mental health unit during a meeting Aug. 21.

The board on June 26 decided to suspend the 18-bed locked mental health unit, as well as the hospital's 12-person crisis-stabilization unit. The crisis stabilization unit was already suspended, and the mental health unit was slated to be suspended this month or next month due to regulatory, financial and staffing difficulties, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

"Recognizing the community's concern regarding mental health services, the board decided to provide another opportunity for interested persons to provide testimony. After considering public comments and relevant information regarding the units, the board will decide what — if any — action to take," the hospital said in a prepared statement.
