Pennsylvania hospital pauses surgeries due to water line burst

Meadville (Pa.) Medical Center delayed some elective surgeries at the hospital's Grove Street building Aug. 14 due to a nearby water main burst, according to Meadville Tribune.

The Grove Street facility houses the hospital's outpatient surgery center, along with physical therapy and the town's transitional care unit.

The water main break affected the Grove Street building’s air condition, cooking and sanitation processes for most of the day. By late afternoon on Aug. 14, the Grove Street building regained sufficient water pressure and all systems were operational.

While Meadville Medical Center rescheduled most outpatient surgeries at the facility to Aug. 20 due to low water pressure from the water main issues, the hospital resumed surgeries Aug. 15.

"The break disrupted the Grove Street building’s air conditioning, cooking and sanitation for most of the day, but emergency procedures were implemented with bottled water used for cooking and additional water used for sanitation."
