To improve safety, the system installed metal detectors at each ED entrance and will subject everyone and all bags to search upon arrival, limit patients to two visitors and require security department oversight to ensure these guidelines are met.

In addition, Harrington HealthCare hired additional security staff and installed more security cameras. Hospital employees will also undergo training in defense tactics.

“Our priority continues to be creating the safest environment possible for anyone who visits our hospital or any of our medical office buildings,” Harold Lemieux, vice president and CIO of Harrington HealthCare System, said.
