Kaiser Permanente hospital lifts 'shelter-in-place' warning after gas leak

Firefighters issued a shelter-in-place warning for Kaiser Permanente Richmond (Calif.) Medical Center after a natural gas line ruptured around 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to East Bay Times.

The two-block radius surrounding the gas leak was evacuated while Pacific Gas & Electric crews shut off the leak and police directed traffic around the affected area.

No injuries were reported and the shelter-in-place alert was lifted at 7:30 p.m. Streets in the area remained closed until 8 a.m. Thursday.

A shelter-in-place alert requires residents to take refuge in an interior room with few windows.
