Florida Hospital Apopka, fire department deploy emergency triage app

Florida Hospital Apopka joined forces with the Apopka Fire Department to implement the Twiage application, which aims to enhance emergency medicine services and patient flow, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

The app allows emergency medical technicians and paramedics to share pertinent patient information, including vital signs and photos or videos, with hospital staff. The hospital staff can then ask for more information and can locate the ambulance, giving them an accurate time of arrival. The staff can also assign patients to rooms before they arrive.

Florida Hospital Apopka and the Apopka Fire Department are the first in the state to deploy the app. For it to work, both healthcare organizations and EMS systems must implement it. The hospital is in talks with Florida-based EMS systems regarding using the app.

John Hui, co-founder and CEO of Twiage, told the Orlando Sentinel 50 hospitals across 11 states have deployed the app thus far.
