Fire department rescue ambulance driver, patient after vehicle slides into Louisiana canal

Firefighters with the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department rescued a patient and the driver of an East Jefferson General Hospital ambulance from a canal in Metairie, La., Monday morning, according to The Times-Picayune.

Officials said the incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. The ambulance driver told investigators he swerved out the path of an oncoming vehicle, hit a curb and slid into the canal, according to the report.

The driver was transported to East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie for treatment. Officials took the patient to New Orleans-based University Medical Center. Details on both individuals’ conditions were not immediately available, according to the report.
