Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Carrollton (Texas) will discontinue obstetrics services and close its neonatal intensive care unit by the end of the month, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Officials will continue to perform delivery services until Jan. 24, and the hospital's obstetrics and neonatal care services will be provided until Jan. 31. Select gynecological care services — including imaging, mammography and hysterectomies — will continue to be available.
Baylor Scott & White officials cited increased local competition as one of the main reasons for the change in services.
"With five other hospitals within a 10-mile radius that provide obstetrical care, this service will remain readily accessible for growing families in the area," the health system said in a statement.
Roughly 46 employees will be affected by the changes. Officials said they are working with affected employees to find positions elsewhere within the health system, according to the report.
The move comes weeks after Baylor Scott & White ended a two-year partnership with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare to jointly operate five hospitals in North Texas.
