2 injured in ambulance that flipped en route to Iowa hospital

A MEDIC EMS ambulance transporting a patient from Davenport, Iowa, to an Iowa City hospital, flipped over and landed in a ditch after losing control on Interstate 80, according to a WQAD report.

The accident took place at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday. The ambulance had three occupants — a driver, ambulance attendant and patient, according to Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Jose Valera. Mr. Valera said slippery road conditions from the snow caused the ambulance to lose control.

The two crew members were injured when the ambulance flipped, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. All three ambulance occupants were transported to the Iowa City-based University of Iowa Hospital and were treated for minor injuries. The two crew members have already been released.

The Iowa State Patrol responded to around seven accidents Sunday where vehicles lost control and slid into ditches along I-80, according to Mr. Valera.
