Want to ensure physician-patient compatibility? Highmark thinks its eHarmony-esque site can do that

Health insurer Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield launched a website that matches Delaware primary care physicians and OB-GYNs with patients based on compatibility, according to delaware online.

Highmark's new Doctor Match website, reminiscent of dating sites like Match.com and eHarmony, is the health insurer's way of meeting patient demand to access physician reviews, ratings and general information online, according to Highmark CMO Charles DeShazer, MD.

To begin the quiz, patients mark whether they are looking for a primary care physician or an OB-GYN. They also enter their zip code to match with a physician practicing close to them.

Patients then answer 30 questions that measure roughly 20 dimensions of compatibility, according to delaware online. Questions may consider whether a patient is seeking a physician who is warm and conversational, or one who is efficient and thorough. Doctor Match also asks if patients prefer a physician contact them about their health information, or if nurse phone calls are OK.

After the answers are submitted, Doctor Match identifies patients' top matches based on their compatibility match score with a physician. Patients can narrow their results by marking gender, language and specialty preferences.

Individuals without Highmark insurance can take the quiz as well, according to the report.
