Patients and caregivers in the endoscopy unit are now shown a discharge teaching video prior to their procedure. The video uses services from the hospital’s telehealth services provider, SmarTigr, which offers interactive patient engagement solutions. Following the discharge video, nursing staff meet with the patient to answer questions.

Since implementing this initiative in June 2016, the hospital has seen patient and staff improvement outcomes. The percent of patients who “strongly agreed” they received helpful information about taking care of themselves at home increased from 71 percent to 86 percent, according to patient satisfaction surveys; staff efficiency increased by 50 percent, according to a clinician time study.
